Alex Taylor

Candidate for Giles

Hi, I’m Alex Taylor

I’m running in the State Election for the everyday Australian. I want to see government action that supports the quality of life for the diverse communities of urban and regional South Australia.

I’m a soil scientist in my daily life and spend most of my time developing ways to support our agricultural and conservation industries. I understand the importance of fertile soils and rich biodiversity in our regional areas and want to take action that supports sustainable agriculture for our communities and environment. The electorate of Giles hosts a huge source of our agricultural industry as well as key resource and arts industries. I believe that the Greens have the best policies to continue supporting the wellbeing of our communities with focus on driving down the cost of living, cheaper healthcare, and free education for our children. I want to see Giles communities thrive, not struggle under the leadership of the major parties.

I’m a young person and new to the world of politics. However, I have spent the last decade in volunteer roles that support the community. I have been a surf life saver since 2013 and understand the importance of coastal communities that are on the frontline of public wellbeing. Additionally, I have dedicated extensive amounts of time in environmental and social advocacy spaces, fighting for the rights of our diverse communities and the people doing it tough. My dream is to continue in the research industry to create reliable evidence for farmers and conservationists, always focussing on community support.

I’m running in this upcoming election because I’m tired of the narrative that we only have two options in Australian democracy. For decades, the two major parties of Australia have failed the general public, causing the cost of living crisis, natural disasters such as the algal bloom and droughts, and the strongarming of industries such as the Whyalla steelworks. I want to represent a party that puts people before profits, that’s why I chose the Greens.
